DFD crews rescue civilians trapped on Comerica ferris wheel. Fox sports ingored the story till after the game but,  finally reported the story at 6 O'clock news. It is very frustrating to know the guys are out there risking their lives for civilians and it goes unreported for hours by the local media. Most likely some of our problems stem from the media's unwillingness or inability to cover us.

Engine 33  performed an act of heroism as a unit that I feel demands recognition!!!
As I have heard it!! Civilians brought a baby to the Engine 33' s quarters who was not breathing. Bill Harp & the crew transported the baby, while administering CPR to the victim, to the hospital where they were able to stabilize the said victim. Local news crews were unavailable to record the rescue and the event went unreported to the general media. A job well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These type of stories are seldom recognized by the media and go unreported because firemen don't look for publicity.  I wish the news media and the public cared enough to acknowledge these men for their dedication and performance of duty.

At approximately 11:44 A.M. Ladder 13 responded alone to a civilian that arrived at the fire house to report a house fire with children trapped.  Engine 33 was filling in for Engine 48 at their quarters  Lt. Lauer, FF Riggs, and FF Orzech responded to 8260 W. Lafayette.  Upon arrival, found heavy fire and smoke coming from the attic where the children were reported trapped.  With only the aide of the red line, Lt. Lauer and FF Orzech made entrance to the dwelling.  Fighting heavy heat and smoke, Lt. Lauer and FF Orzech proceeded upstairs and miraculously found a five year old girl.  While making the interior attack, FF Riggs acting as the driver, performed pump operations, external ventilation, and placed a 20 foot ladder to the upstairs window.  FF Orzech produced the trapped child, but the window was too small to escape with his tank on with child in hand.  FF Riggs ascended the ladder, retrieving the child.  With no EMS available, a police car on the scene transported the child to the hospital.  FF Orzech, in order to escape the heavy heat and flames, had to remove his SCBA in order to climb through the window to safety.

At approximately 2:00 p.m. an emotional, overjoyed, grateful mother, with daughter in hand, (straight from the hospital) showed up at Engine 33’s quarters to give hugs and kisses to all firefighters in reach. She expressed with tears in her eyes her gratitude for the brave acts that saved her daughter.
